ROMANCE ON THE STRADUN
FLIGHTS PODGORICA – DUBROVNIK
Once the proud Republic of Ragusa, and at one time a Venetian and Montenegrin city, Dubrovnik is today one of the world’s great tourist centers. Nature has blessed Dubrovnik with extraordinary beauty that many poets and writers have tried to describe and celebrate in verse. Blue skies, crystal-clear turquoise sea, a rocky coastline full of coves, beautiful sandy beaches and steep cliffs dotted with fragrant Mediterranean plants stay with visitors long after they leave. Because of its marble streets and its Renaissance and Baroque buildings, George Bernard Shaw called Dubrovnik the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” and UNESCO added it to its World Heritage List. A Podgorica – Dubrovnik flight gets you there quickly and comfortably.

TRAVELING TO DUBROVNIK
The Old Town is without a doubt the most interesting and attractive part of Dubrovnik. As you wander its romantic streets, you won’t just see the most fascinating sights; you’ll also feel the special, somewhat mystical atmosphere that radiates from its ancient stone walls. The scent of aromatic herbs, white sheets drying in the sun between the houses, the constant buzz of locals in the narrow, busy streets… the best way to get to know and feel the city is to blend in with the crowd and let it carry you on an unforgettable journey through a maze of streets and through the centuries.
The entire historic center is surrounded by medieval walls, creating the perfect illusion of a well-protected settlement from another era. There are several entrances to the city, set beneath magnificent fortifications overlooking the gates. If you approach the walls from the modern center of Dubrovnik, you’ll enter the Old Town through the Pile Gate, the main entrance to the city. Minčeta Tower is considered one of the most beautiful fortifications in the world. It is one of Dubrovnik’s iconic symbols and offers a magnificent view of the entire city. Bokar Fortress was designed to defend the city from the sea; today it is a venue for performances during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
Once you pass through the city gate, you’ll find yourself at the beautiful Onofrio’s Fountain, a favorite meeting spot for local young people. Perhaps the most beautiful and interesting monument in this part of the Old Town is the Franciscan Monastery, built in the late Middle Ages. It is one of the finest and most harmonious examples of Gothic and Romanesque architecture in Dubrovnik. The monastery church often hosts concerts throughout the year.
As you stroll, you’ll find yourself on Dubrovnik’s most famous and beloved street, the Stradun. With its many souvenir shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants, the Stradun is never quiet. As you make your way through the crowds, you can enjoy performances by numerous street entertainers.
At the other end, the Stradun opens onto a lovely square surrounded by some of Dubrovnik’s most important historic landmarks. You’ll see the Cathedral, the Church of St. Blaise, the Sponza Palace (City Archives), the Rector’s Palace, the bell tower and Orlando’s Column. All of these monuments are prime examples of late medieval and early Renaissance architecture.
Once you’ve finished this must-do tour for every visitor to Dubrovnik, you can get lost in the maze of narrow streets and explore other sights. There are numerous museums and galleries where you can enjoy some of the finest examples of historical and contemporary art.
If you want a break from art and history lessons, just enjoy the view; soak up the authentic atmosphere and watch the city’s lively everyday life. When you get tired and hungry, literally follow your nose. The inviting aromas of delicious Mediterranean cuisine drift through the narrow streets from countless restaurants and taverns, tempting you to take a break and try some local specialties.
The Old Town doesn’t lose its vibrancy after dark; quite the opposite. Numerous music and theater performances on the city’s squares and all kinds of events at countless venues keep city life buzzing long after sunset.
